Evacuated Tube Solar Water Heater of Solar Water Heating System

Working Principle
The evacuated tube solar water heater of solar water heating system contains vacuum or evacuated tubes which are made from glass. The outer surface of glass on the inner tube is covered with an absorbant coating, and the inner surface is covered with a reflective coating. All air is removed inside each tube to form a vacuum, and a copper heat pipe is located through the centre of the tubes to absorb the infrared radiation from the sun.
Hot vapours from the antifreeze rise up to the top of the heat pipe as heat rises, and more antifreeze flows through a header pipe which connects with copper tip of the heat pipe. The hot antifreeze is pumped through pipes inside the hot water tank, resulting in hot water and cool antifreeze. Finally, the cool antifreeze continues its journey around the system and returns to the solar water heater for reheating.

Advantages
Unlike conventional flat plate solar water heater, the evacuated tube solar water heater of solar water heating system can maintain its performance even during the coldest winter months. As the vacuum can effectively prevent heat tube from being cooled much by the ambient temperature, so water can be easily heated to 50+ degrees by winter sun in cold season. Even if it is very cloudy and cold, enough sunlight gets through to keep the tubes well above freezing to preheat the water. In addition, the evacuated tube solar water heater requires minimal maintenance over its 20+ years life.
