On Grid Solar Power System

On grid solar power system, a kind of photovoltaic power system, is used to directly feed renewable energy generated by photovoltaic array, wind turbine and fuel cells etc. back into the grid through a grid connect inverter, eliminating the need for storage battery. This system is also called an grid connect solar power system, and can be used as a residential solar power system.

The on grid solar power system directly makes use of the generated power and cuts out the energy storage and release process of storage battery, which keeps energy loss to a minimum and greatly lowers system cost. This system can use both mains supply and power generated by renewable energy as the local AC power supply, which can effectively reduce power shortage of the whole system.

Nowadays, the design capacities of building-integrated PV power systems vary greatly, from several kilowatts to hundreds of kilowatts or even megawatts. The system should be chosen according to the actual situation of photovoltaic array, such as component specifications and installation direction. Typically there are two types of grid connect types:

1. Centralized grid connect type: suitable for installing photovoltaic arrays with the same orientation and specifications in the buildings, use a single inverter
2. Distributed grid connect type: suitable for installing photovoltaic arrays with different orientation and specifications in the buildings, use multiple inverters

System Overview
The on grid solar power system is virtually maintenance free, and is used in places where secondary source of power other than grid supply is needed. Power generated by solar energy is converted into AC current to power household load. Inverter balances the two sources of power so that any excess energy needed by the load is taken from the grid. On the other hand, any extra power from the solar energy is fed back into the grid thereby turning the energy meter backwards.
